Big Cheese? Review of "Waking up, Finding out"
Hailing from Peterborough, Upshot are a four piece powerful, pop punk outfit who write some great songs in the vein of The Ataris. Opener "Face Off" is a frantic yet melodic little number that whizzes by leaving you with a smile. There's a little 30 second blast of power in the shape of "Mr Hardcore". My only gripe is that the super fast drumming can wear a little thin as you go on, but the guys do pull it back with the excellent mid paced closer of "Nurse Stanway to the Operating Room". I really liked this and I'm sure as the guys write more songs, they'll end up being superb. At the moment they're pretty damn good tho'!

GIMP Fanzine Live Review-Friday 8th June 2001-The Park
"Upshot are a reasonably new band around town, fromted by Scott who also plays bass. This young band grabbed the attention of the masses as soon as they took to the stage, wearing false moustaches, boiler suits and wigs. I started to worry it was another band with more style than content. The banter with the crowd and each other started straight away before the band flew into afrenetic assault on our minds. The best I can describe them musically is to compare them to Millencolin. The riffs were loose and catchy with great vocals and drums...ohmygod...drums like you've never seen! This young lad gets so into his beats its a treat to watch, either that or he suffers from a worrying nervous twitch! The songs dive left and right with heavy riffs, vocals and music together, yet the drummer still keeps up and even throws in some awesome rolls just to stir it up even more. With all this taken into account, and the fact that Upshot are at the start of their life, you'd expect a few loose ends. Wrong! They were stupidly tight at high tempo and when it changed rhythm. They even stopped and started tracks without a glitch. I've never been into this kind of music, too much humour and thrashy guitar, but now on I promise myself to stop and listen. Upshot have to be seen to be believed. I need a break..."
